Home Repairs for Good (HRG) is a nonprofit organization in Indianapolis whose mission is helping older adults and those with disabilities age in place safely. We do this by providing home repairs at no cost to the homeowner. We use volunteers, workforce development trainees, subcontractors and staff to complete the repairs and fund them through donations and grants.

Position Description:
The primary responsibility of the instructor is to guide and supervise groups of adult learners during their hands-on work experience in residential repairs. As an instructor, you will be teaching a diverse group of trainees how to safely and properly use power tools, complete home repairs on our clients’ homes, and model appropriate on-the-job soft skills needed to be successful coworkers and employees. Outside of class time you will work with the rest of the instructional team to either prepare for classes (plan out repairs, acquire materials and supplies, prep & stock vehicles) as well as finish jobs at clients homes when appropriate. The majority of this job is outdoors within Marion County, Indiana with some office hours.

Key Responsibilities

Guide trainees in the field with a focus on safety and residential home repairs

Encourage healthy job skills, communication skills and problem solving skills in trainees

Participate in planning & prep of home repair projects

Assist with arranging materials, equipment, and vehicles for each project work day

Assess homes and build an appropriate scope of work for the client & program

Help with other home repair projects as needed for Home Repairs for Good

Maintain tool organization and safe storage of materials
Requirements:
-
Valid Driver’s License and safe driving record, an official driving record from the BMV is required in order to be considered for hire.

Experience in residential remodels, construction, the trades or an adjacent field

Demonstrated ability to respectfully instruct and model skills in a group setting

Organizational skills to maintain documentation and planning

Ability to use Google Workspace, maintain a calendar, and display computer competency.

Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Be able to pass a drug test

Able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs and work in outdoor settings for up to eight hours at a time.
Preferred:

Comfort level driving large vehicles and towing trailers (No CDL required)
