Phone Intake Volunteer
Home Repairs for Good, formerly NeighborLink Indianapolis', mission is to help low-income seniors and individuals with disabilities who own their own homes age in place safely and with dignity. We do this by providing home repair at no cost to the homeowner.
Be the first point of contact for a homeowner in need! This volunteer opportunity can be done from your home, a cafe, school, wherever you have access to the internet, a phone, and a computer. Because this is so heavily focused on Marion County, Indiana, we do prefer Indianapolis residents or those who are very familiar with the area.
Time Commitment: average of 1-hour a week
Work: Responding to voicemail messages from homeowners & entering request information
Home Repairs for Good is searching for volunteers who could commit to a 6-12 months volunteer role. Training and resources are provided and we work with you for a schedule that works with your availability. A phone number app will be provided to keep your information private when communicating with clients.
Role Description

Return voicemails from homeowners and help them understand if they qualify or not.

If the homeowner qualifies, fill out a home repair request form to be entered into the CRM system.

If the homeowner does not qualify, let them know why and recommend another resource (we provide guidance on resources)

During the assigned volunteer day, return a minimum of 12 phone calls.

Homeowner Vetting Volunteer
This role visits homeowners at their home and walks them through an online form for vetting purposes. This process helps determine eligibility for the homeowner and for their project to be accepted for Home Repairs for Good’s free home repairs. Through an interview-like conversation, the intake specialist will fill out the necessary vetting form, gather the documentation necessary, and when able, photograph the home repair need(s). Data entry, photographing documents to upload into our database, and calling homeowners to schedule a vetting time are all elements of this role.

Answer any questions the homeowner may have about the NLIndy process

Photograph the area needing repair and provide a written description of need and any concerns to be aware of

Submit form, photos, and any additional information to NLIndy staff
